PUZZLE PIECE mailing project:  2009

Participate by sending your own original puzzle piece mailing to your legislator!

Postcard Project:  2008

In April 2008, several Missouri families participated in a Postcard Project.  They wrote postcards to their legislators to "introduce themselves" as citizens concerned about autism issues.

ALL the cards were hand-delivered to the offices of the legislators in Jefferson City, and many cards were copied, so that they could be sent to multiple legislators!

Thanks to all who participated!

Postcard Project:  Take Action in Autism Awareness Month!

Please take part in …

Autism Introductions:

A Mailing Project
“Autism Affects My Family.”

If you have a loved one with autism, please take time during the month of April
to write postcards, letters, or emails to “introduce yourself”,
one to your state representative and one to your state senator.

Send a simple postcard, letter, or email that says, “Autism Affects My Family.”  You can add your own personal message to the card.  It could be a very basic message, or a more detailed one.

The important thing is that we make contact and INTRODUCE ourselves to our state legislators.

Sample messages:
“I have a son with autism.  I live in **** county.”
“I have a grandchild with autism.  I live in **** county.
“I have a niece with autism.  I live in **** county.
        “I have a student with autism.  I live/teach in **** county.
        “I have a client with autism.  I live/work in **** county.
“My friend has a child with autism.  I live in **** county.”

Are you getting the idea?  Each person with autism influences many other people.  Many of those people would like to be active, but don’t always know how.  Everyone can participate in this project.  The more, the BETTER!

You can also add your own more personal message, by telling something about your situation or by advocating for a specific issue:
“I am very interested in issues regarding ….”
“I encourage you to support ….”
“Thank you for supporting … (autism issues”)

It is important that legislators know what issues affect their constituents.
It is important that our state legislators (and our federal ones, too!) know we EXIST.

Please include your name, the county you live in, with zip/address.  Mail all cards/letters to:

Missouri Autism Coalition,    P.O. Box 1431,    Jefferson City, MO  65102

(OR collect a bundle and mail in one large envelope to save postage!)

You can also EMAIL your message:  missouriautism@gmail.com
(Be sure to include your Name, County, and Zip Code when you sign your message!)

We will hand-deliver your cards, letters, and printed emails to your state rep AND state senator directly.  Please mail all cards by April 20 to assure delivery in April.

Feel free to print up your own postcards with this message and distribute to other families!
